Regulatory Improvement

A message from Jay Manning, Director...

Jay Manning and Gov. Gregoire talk to EMT.

Jay Manning with Governor Gregoire

Improving our regulatory processes and being efficient and effective in how we work with our regulated community will help Ecology continue to receive the support it needs to advance our environmental mission. Getting environmental results is what it’s all about. Creating and implementing process improvements that save time and money without diminishing environmental benefits makes sense.

Regulatory improvement at Ecology is about continually improving our permitting and regulatory decision-making processes. Old processes built on command and control approaches will fail to meet the pressing environmental challenges we face today. New or revised approaches that focus on results, innovation, and partnerships are a more effective way to achieve and maintain a clean and healthy environment.

We are glad to partner with the other natural resource agencies of government to rethink and retool our collective regulatory approach. Doing so is good for Ecology, is good for business, and is good for the environment.

Ecology is focusing our regulatory improvement efforts on these four areas:

  1. People and Service-Delivery
  2. Permitting and Regulatory Processes
  3. Regulatory Integration
  4. Innovation and Partnerships to Achieve Better Outcomes
