SPOKANE – Spokane County residents have an opportunity this Saturday, June 21, to learn how to keep lawns and gardens healthy by practicing smart watering.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 noon June 21 at Pavilion Park in Liberty Lake.
“Believe it or not, watering gardens and lawns is a bit complicated, especially if you want to avoid wasting water,” said environmental educator Brook Beeler with the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology). “We’re going to help make it simpler.”
Participants will get hands-on experience with setting clock timers, adjusting sprinkler heads, and setting up for adequate sprinkler coverage without wasting water. Experts also will explain and demonstrate the advanced technologies that can make watering easier.
Kids are welcome to join in on the fun at the “Kids Station” by coloring, building crafts, learning about our precious aquifer, and perhaps running through a sprinkler or two.
Once the workshop is over, the six groups that organized the “Smart Outdoor Watering” event will host a barbecue to thank participants for participating and for helping to save water.
The sponsors/organizers include Ecology, the Spokane River Forum, the Spokane County Water Resources Department, the Spokane Aquifer Joint Board, the city of Liberty Lake, and the Liberty Lake Sewer and Water District. These agencies and organizations are part of the Regional Water Conservation Collaboration.
