Short Description

Case study of oil spill on June 27, 1999, when the tank vessel ARCO TEXAS was discharging crude oil through loading arms to a refinery in Ferndale, WA. Combination of tidal current and wind overcame holding capacity of winches and the vessel drifted away from the terminal dock, causing both loading arms to fall into the water. Released approximately 300 gallons of crude oil. Includes recommendations to prevent future occurrences, and follow-up actions by new vessel operators.
